Wellness Check-In

Oh 2020 where do I begin, or should I ask where does it end?

It has been some time since I’ve written for this blog. I have missed sharing my ideas, tips, and knowledge about all things healthy mind, body, and soul. Today I want to do a Wellness Check-In to see how you all are doing out there in these uncertain times of extreme civil unrest and Covid-19.

This year has been one for the history books for sure starting at the very top of the year with the death of our beloved Kobe Bryant. My condolences go out to the families of everyone in the helicopter that tragic day. It would be the first of many silent days to come. Strange times. But nonetheless we still have to maintain our stability and peace of mind. No matter what is happening in the external world around us we have to ensure that our internal world will sustain us through it all.

What have you all been doing to maintain your internal peace in these externally trying times?

Personally, I have been taking this time out to do a lot of internal and external work. I have been focusing 100% on my mental and emotional well-being, checking in with myself daily, and recalibrating my energy when necessary. With all that is going on this has not been easy as I was and for the most part still am in quarantine alone. As I’m sure many of you know quarantining alone is a mind trip and if you’re not proactive in meditative practices it can mess with your head. I consider myself to be of strong sound mind and body, but I will admit some days are harder than others.

What have I been doing to sustain my sanity? Spending a lot of time doing what makes me happy and for me that is writing and cooking. I’ve been meditating a lot and doing a lot of inner-self therapy. It’s very cathartic if you really get to the root of your inadequacies and/or deficiencies. Lots of tears but that’s okay, let them fall until they can’t fall no more. I’m not a good crier, I wish I were, every time I cry all my air passages clog up and I can barely breathe, true story. I have to light cry, no boo whooing for me.

So listen y’all, if you take nothing from this post today please take this small piece of friendly advice. Check-in with yourself before you check-in with others. Caretakers especially, we find it quite difficult to put ourselves first but its the only healthy way to exist. We cannot serve anyone with a bereft heart, it is not sustainable.

Excerpt from my book, 'Mr. and Mrs. Know It All Guess What You Don’t Know Sh*t'.

We are now living in a time of sink or swim and we must adapt to the ever-changing climate that is our society. Alarmingly many people are stuck in their feelings of hopelessness and helplessness with no idea how to move forward. We don't know if we're coming or going. The only way around this inference is to unplug from the external world and start focusing on living a simpler life.
One of the greatest things about conflict is that at its worse it transforms and redefines almost anything. E. Lynn
